As I write this I’m also wrestling with my youngest daughter, who keeps trying to put her tiny feet all over my keyboard. That’s me: a mom/wife and writer struggling to find the balance between two things that make me happy.
In my mom/wife life, I stay home with three amazing little blonde girls aged five, three, and (not quite) one. I’m 28, and I feel like I’m in that place where I still have one foot in Young Mom (babies and diapers and pushing a stroller around campus) and the other in Soccer Mom (kids starting school and realizing you haven’t been in college for… you know, a while). My husband works in road construction, which means the girls and I spend a lot of time hanging out at home during the summer. I may or may not have issues keeping my house clean.
In my writer life, I’m the author of three as-yet unpublished fantasy novels. I figure there’s no shame in putting this out there because 1) I’ve written three books while being mom to two and three kids, so that’s awesome , and 2) I’ve never tried to get them published, so there’s still hope! I would dearly love to call my stories New Adult Fantasy but apparently to some people ‘New Adult’ means ‘sexytime.’ Since my books are pretty clean, I guess we’ll just have to call them Adult Fantasy (which sounds more like sexytime to me, but whatever). I write stories for people who grew up on the YA wave (Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight, etc.) and are ready for college-aged characters. I’m doing a lot of revising this summer and will start the query process this fall, so stay tuned!
